I’m sitting here writing my first blog for the website and the word “intention” keeps running through my mind. I’ve heard the Collective teach on intention many times and I still struggle to incorporate the importance of it into my own life. An intention is a directive. Dictionary.com defines its root as:
in•tend
verb
1. “having (a course of action) as one’s purpose, objective, or plan;”
2. “design or destine (someone or something) for a particular purpose or end.”
The gist of the Collective’s teaching on intention is that without it we are being swept along in the streams of other people’s energy, freely giving away our power to the collective consciousness and its will.
As I ponder how to improve this situation, it occurs to me that intention needs to be linked to every thought I have. What a ponderous endeavor! The Collective has said many times that we are creating in every moment. We do it naturally, we do it unconsciously, and we don’t spend enough time doing it intentionally. Our creative energy seems to leak from us like a slow, unconscious drip that we’ve become deaf to amidst the cacophony of living.
How are we to begin to take charge of our own creative energy? I took this question to the Collective and they provided some insightful steps:
1) Setting intentions is a learned behavior. Spend at least a small amount of time every day settings intentions. Get quiet, sit down with a piece of paper, and write down three intentions for the day. They can be anything. “I intend to share positive thoughts with at least one person today.” “I intend to finish one task before beginning another.” “I intend to take a few minutes for myself today.” When you notice that you’ve kept your intention, that you’ve executed the directive, give yourself a big pat on the back for being intentional. As in all things, practice makes perfect.
2) Intention is intricately linked to manifestation. Set intentions for the experiences you wish to have. “I am setting an intention to remember a dream tonight, that I may learn from it.” “I am setting an intention for peaceful interactions with my co-workers.” “I am setting an intention to afford a vacation this year.” You don’t necessarily need to work out all the details of your intention, but you must feel the emotion of it. Intention and manifestation are powered by the source-field. Intentions have a frequency of their own that goes out to interact with the energies that can bring them into fruition. As a reminder, like attracts like, which is the Law of Attraction. Set your frequency and intentions accordingly.
3) Intentions are invitations. An intention holds energy, as do all things, thoughts, and beings. “I am setting an intention to meet like-minded friends.” “I am setting an intention to interact with my guides during meditation.” “I am setting an intention to be the person I wish to attract in a relationship.” Soul-to-soul invitation and communion takes place via intentions. Make known what you are available to experience and then make your intention welcome.
Setting an intention is an act of deliberate creation. It seems a shame to pour all that beautiful energy into a collective consciousness that seems to be riding on waves of confusion. Let’s break out of the unconscious-creation paradigm – set a positive intention today!
